Ammunition and Explosives Amnesty Day Oct. 31

WSMR Public > Featured News > Ammunition and Explosives Amnesty Day Oct. 31

It's time again to prepare for the Annual Team White Sands Ammunition and Explosives Amnesty Day.  This year the event will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 between 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

In accordance with DA PAM 385-64, DA Pam 700-16 and WSMR Policy Letter #29 is an anonymous process and may be used without fear of penalty or prosecution.

The only deviation from previous policy letter to current Policy Letter #29 is the locations of the drop off points.  The collection point will be Gate A18, located on I70, five miles east from the NM Hwy 213 (Owen Road) which is the turnoff to the White Sands Missile Range Las Cruces Gate. Quality Assurance Specialist Ammunition Surveillance (QASAS) will be accepting amnesty turn-in at this location.  No question will be asked of the person turning in the A&E, nor will there be any record made of who turned in A&E amnesty.

The purpose of the Army's A&E Amnesty Program is to allow personnel to turn-in any A&E in their possession (found, forgotten, obtain under questionable conditions…), that they are not legally allowed to have.  The amnesty process gets the material back into the proper supply channels.  This does not apply to using organizations that have received an A&E issue, but have not utilized the proper supply process to complete a normal turn-in.

If you are not sure if the A&E item is safe for be carried or to transport in a vehicle, please contact the following: On WSMR, individuals can contact CF Day at (575) 678-7588 or the QASAS at (575) 678-7449.  Off-post personnel should contact local law enforcement to handle this hazardous situation.
