White Sands Missile Range will conduct a Force Protection installation-wide active shooter full-scale security exercise Oct. 18.
WSMR Garrison Commander Col. Dave Brown said the exercise was planned months ago in order to allow members of Team WSMR to practice procedures.
Residents and visitors are reminded that both the El Paso and Las Cruces gates will close starting at 9 a.m. for about an hour at the start of the exercise.
Dennis Stockwell, director of DPTMS, said people should plan ahead and either be in or out of the post before the exercise begins, so they won't get stuck at the gates.
EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE: During the exercise, DES will use the GIANT VOICE – the big speakers you see around the post that usually play the daily bugle calls. All of these messages will begin with the words "Exercise, Exercise, Exercise!"
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Certain buildings will "lockdown" as part of the exercise. Talk to your supervisor about how this will happen and what you need to know to help secure your office.
The exercise will begin with an AtHoc message to all beginning with "Exercise//Exercise//Exercise". The same message will be transmitted via the Giant Voice Speaker Systems to notify individuals outside. Once you receive this message, take appropriate action. The exercise will conclude with another message stating "Exercise//Exercise//Exercise//All Clear//All Clear".
