White Sands welcomes Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Vincent McCormick

Where are you from and where is home for you?

Evergreen, North Carolina. Where ever the Army sends me.

Can you tell me a little about your previous assignment?

I most recently served as the Command Sergeant Major for the 47th BSB, 2BCT 1ST Armored Division at Fort Bliss and as a Department Sergeant Major at Fort Lee, Virginia.  I have served multiple 1SG positions at Fort Bliss with the 4th BCT 1ST Cavalry Division and United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.

What led you to the Army?

I always knew that I wanted to join the Army. Being from a small town, I wanted to choose a career path that I could excel at, be part of a team and that I could be proud of.

Are there any memories from the Army that you would like to share?

All of my memories from the Army are special, I have had the opportunity to go to places all around the world, and be part of some outstanding units.

Is there anyone you'd like to credit who helped you get to where you are today?

I have had numerous leaders that guided me throughout my career. Additionally, my wife and I supported each other throughout our careers.

What have you learned from previous leadership roles?

Talk less, listen more, be approachable, and be an effective communicator.

Who are your family members?

My wife Peggy, and my three sons Demonte, Vincent Jr. and Dauvon.

What do you and your family like to do for fun?

We like to travel and spend time with our grandsons.

What do you like to do for fun?

Go to the gym, play basketball and softball.

How do you feel about coming to WSMR?

Energetic, motivated, and honored.

What do you hope to accomplish while you're here?

I want to be part of the command team that can better serve the WSMR community by focusing on common goals that benefit all personnel.
