White Sands Missile Range welcomed Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Devin Winnegan during a change of responsibility ceremony March 18 at the Frontier Club.

Winnegan, who grew up in Smithfield, Virginia, comes to WSMR from Hohenfels, Germany, where he was the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Reconnaissance Observer Coach/Trainer.

Winnegan said he joined the Army because he always wanted to be part of something meaningful. "I never intended on staying 20 years, however, after several tours in combat and losing so many brothers, I felt it was my duty to stay until the job was done or until I had nothing else to give."

During his time at WSMR, Winnegan said he hopes to build on the great team that's already assembled and to do his part in making WSMR a dependable and viable part of the Army's mission.

From his previous leadership roles, Winnegan said he's learned that it's never about him. "Accomplishment of any mission is about people."

"I just feel blessed to be in several positions where I can do my part whether it's leadership or a loyal follower to help the Army accomplish its mission," Winnegan said.

Winnegan said he finds WSMR to be a great community with talented personnel who are committed and motivated. "My family is extremely excited about the change from Germany."

Winnegan said he likes to spend time with his family during his free time. He is also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and is absolutely crazy about Reese's peanut butter cups.
